Richmond, VA – Media General, Inc. (NYSE: MEG), a local broadcast television and digital media company, today announced that Garry Kelly has been named Vice President and General Manager of WSLS-TV, its NBC affiliate in Roanoke, VA, effective August 11, 2014. Mr. Kelly comes to Media General from Birmingham, AL, where he currently serves as Vice President and News Director for ABC 33/40.

"Garry has a distinguished background in local television operations and has had broadcast market experience from Denver, Nashville, Huntsville and Birmingham. Mr. Kelly has served as Vice President and News Director at ABC 33/40 since 1996, and he has had the added responsibility as the station's Promotion Director since 2009. He served as News Director of WAFF in Huntsville, AL, from 1992 to 1996, as Assistant News Director for WTVF in Nashville from 1988 to 1992, and as Executive Producer for KMGH in Denver from 1982 to 1988. Mr. Kelly was won more than 100 state A.P. awards, more than 20 Regional Murrow Awards, one National Murrow Award and six Regional Emmys. He began his career as a sports writer for The Miami News, and he attended Miami-Dade College.

The Roanoke-Lynchburg, VA DMA is the 66th largest television market in the nation, according to Nielsen Media Research.
